Call for Proposals - Environmental Innovation Challenge
In partnership with GMSL, Acted, and LSM, the Environmental Innovation Challenge invites proposals to promote and protect collective socio-environmental rights in the Maldives. This initiative seeks community-driven solutions to address pressing environmental challenges in selected regions.
OBJECTIVE
The challenge aims to foster collaborative, community-driven environmental activism among Community Organizers trained under the Community Organizers for Climate Action training of the SAFER project. Through ideation sessions involving key stakeholders, the program will focus on three priority areas:
Sustainable Resource Management & Cultural Heritage
Waste Management & Food Security
Community Dialogue & Collaborative Action

This call is open to SAFER-supported participants, their connected CSOs, and communities from the following regions:
Kaafu Atoll
Laamu Atoll
Haa Alif Atoll
Haa Dhaal Atoll
Seenu Atoll

Concept Note Submission: 9-Jan-2025
Proposal Writing Workshop: 10-Jan-2025
Final Proposal Submission: 20-Jan-2025
Winner Selection & Awarding: 26-Jan-2025
Implementation Period: Jan-May 2025
PROPOSAL GUIDELINES
We invite community-level innovative proposals that address the priority issues in your region. Proposals can include activities such as:
Conservation initiatives
Volunteer work
Awareness or training programs
Other community-focused environmental projects
SELECTION & IMPLEMENTATION
3 to 5 proposals will be selected for funding, with at least one project implemented in each region. LSM will assist in organizing and monitoring the selected projects.
A selection committee, including representatives from Acted, LSM, and other partners, will evaluate proposals based on the following criteria:
Alignment with the objectives and scope of the SAFER project
Focus on environmental rights and community impact
Feasibility and expected outcomes
Community coverage and targeted beneficiaries
Involvement of governmental and non-governmental stakeholders
Note: Group proposals are encouraged.
BUDGET & FINANCE DISBURSEMENT
Each applicant will be awarded MVR 30,000 per project. Funds will be provided as reimbursement for expenses detailed in the proposal. Payments will be made directly to vendors based on agreed terms and conditions.
